Hotaka is situated in Nagano Prefecture, where the Japanese Alps begin. A sleepy provincial village, Hotaka is mostly famous for its wasabi plantations. The alleys are dotted with small izakayas and tiny home-run restaurants, while the streets are lit by wrought-iron wasabi shaped lamposts.
